Say Yes to the Prom Part II

Over 100 students lined up last Thursday evening outside of Grafton, dresses and ties in hand, to donate to Say Yes to the Prom. Erin Greene and Molly Hoffmaster, two Senior Media Arts and Design majors, hosted their second dress collection event and presentation for Say Yes to the Prom. The event was catered to collecting gently used prom or formal dresses from the JMU community but also included some pretty sweet incentives: a raffle to Campus Cookies for whomever attended, a chance to take a snap shot with a cut out of TLC's Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta host, Monte Durham, and props, as well as a chance to write letters to the young women who will attend the Say Yes to the Prom event that will take place in Silverspring, Maryland at the end of this month.

Dr. Virginia Quick gave an informative presentation about women's body types over the past decades highlighting the importance of inner-beauty and confidence highlighting Say Yes to the Prom's mission. Dr. Virginia Quick is an Assistant Professor at James Madison University in the Nutrition & Dietetics program and is the Editor-In-Chief of the Research Dietetics Practice Group quarterly newsletter, The Digest. Her main research of interest focuses on examining eating behaviors, disordered eating, and body image of youth and young adults, particularly those with chronic illness.

Dr. Quick's presentation was followed by amazing performances by the Madison Project and The Bluestones to commemorate Say Yes to the Prom's message of promoting inner beauty and confidence.
