Tackling: Animal Print, Bold Colors, and Stripes
by Kayla Rassmussen
You are late to class, its cold, and not to mention it is eight in the morning. You roll out of bed and are feeling ambitious. You decide that today, you will change out of the sweatshirt you slept in. Big deal, I know. Still half asleep, you grab whatever neutral article of clothing that feels warm (and smells alright), toss it on and pair it with your perfectly worn in black leggings. Simple outfit, however, does not make much of a statement. Incorporating animal print, bold color, and stripes into your wardrobe are just as easy and take relatively the same amount of time.
Adding animal print as an accessory is a fail proof way of incorporating it into your wardrobe. This jacket can be worn on top of any neutral top and leggings while still adding an extra touch. The leopard print on the jacket is not too harsh that it screams “animal print” but it is enough to add an extra something to your outfit. If you are really afraid of adding that much fierceness, add animal prints by slipping on a printed belt instead of your go to black leather one. Just this little hint can completely transform your entire look, without being too much.
Bold and bright colors. Every manhattanite’s nightmare. Neon, red, and everything in between should never be banned from anyone’s wardrobe. Wearing black and white all day every day is boring. Spice it up! Buy clothes that you normally have in a neutral color in a bold color, so you can swap it in without any effort. These tank tops can go underneath any of my neutral sweaters and also look great with jeans. Wearing a colored jacket is also an easy way to add in some color. Most of the time people wear jeans or black bottoms so adding a colorful jacket up top won’t cause your outfit to clash if you keep it buttoned up. When in doubt, wear a colorful statement necklace to add some color to your outfit.
Lets end with what is the most feared by women. Stripes. One bad angle and boom! You are now two inches shorter than before. The stripes are too thin or too wide? Now your whole outfit looks like a Where’s Waldo costume. From my experience, it doesn’t matter how far apart the stripes are or if they are vertical or horizontal, the whole trick is pairing them with other pieces that are flattering. The whole point of stripes is to add extra dimension to your outfit, not be the outfit. Pair a striped dress with an open cardigan or add a striped shirt with your favorite jeans to dress up a weekend outfit. Let your inner tiger, Carrie Bradshaw bold, and Where’s Waldo shine next time you reach in for a fast, quick outfit.
