Sophomore Joe Gowen, a Finance major, came dressed to impress. His outfit was sleek, yet approachable. Gowen believes in the importance of a good tie in an interview setting; he typically goes for ties in blue and green, his two favorite colors. His other staple is a great watch. “My senior year of high school, we won the State Championship for golf so they gave us all watches instead of trophies,” said Gowen. “I use that as a good luck charm of sorts.”
Joe’s professional style goes beyond the interview environment. “I always want to look presentable. It goes with the territory of being in the College of Business.” He speaks the truth. JMU’s College of Business is known for their sharp dressers. “People want to show that they’re there to get stuff done, especially to their professors as well as fellow classmates.”
Though a sophomore, Joe has picked up several interview tips from his involvement in both the College of Business and Phi Chi Theta. “I think when you first walk in, you need to give a firm handshake and look them in their eyes. They’ll judge you in the first six seconds of you walking in.”
