Tory Atkins//Computer Information Systems
Tory Atkins, a sophomore Computer Information Systems major, has an intensely full plate. Between involvement in the business fraternity, Phi Chi Theta, and heavy involvement as the Sophomore Student Body President, as well as maintaining her GPA and social life, it’s a wonder that she is able to dress the way she does. “If I look like crap, then I am going to have a more negative outlook on that day in general,” Atkins said, in an exclusive Threads interview.
Atkins’ style is business professional with a twist. “For me, I stick to the classic blazer. But I hate pants, like every other woman on this planet,” (AMEN), “So I tend to wear dresses. It needs to go past your fingertips and definitely not show any cleavage.” Atkins smiled when I asked her what she wears to class. “I expanded my pencil skirt collection over break if that says anything. I have seven now, in all different colors.” Atkins likes to dress up for class which is en vogue for the majority of College of Business (COB) students.
When it comes to nailing an interview, Atkins had some wise words of wisdom regarding what makes a good outfit. “You want them to listen to what you’re saying. Your outfit shouldn’t distract from the actual interview.” And as for more nuts-and-bolts advice for nailing an interview, Atkins laid it out wonderfully. “Know your audience. It’s about researching the company you’re interviewing for. If you know nothing about the environment you’re walking into, you’ll get eaten by sharks.”
