Vinny DiGillio//Computer Information Systems

Vinny DiGillio, a Senior Computer Information Systems major, was a pleasure to talk to about professional style. Hair coiffed and suit pressed, he approached my interview like he would at Goldman Sach’s. He got right down to business. “I don’t like to go out dressing sloppy. You will not see me in sweatpants unless it was a really bad day,” DiGillio said seriously. DiGillio has been heavily involved at JMU. Phi Chi Theta, being a FROG, and studying abroad is the short-list.

You can tell that DiGillio has the interview down-pat. “I try to make my outfit as professional as possible and that starts by making sure everything coordinates and matches. Black and dark blue is not a good combination,” he explained. DiGillio has already landed a job post-grad so his advice has definite merit. “If people see that you don’t know how to dress yourself, they will pre-judge you before you even get to speak.”

As for DiGillio’s one piece of advice for the interview, it’s this: “You should try to connect with them on a personal level rather than just focusing on the questions asked. They know you are a strong candidate, but it comes down to if they can see you actually working in the office with them?” With piercing eye contact, he broke it down. “It is important to not only show that you are a strong candidate for the job, but that you’re a good human being.”
